Girish Rajaput (17) and two others from Shivamogga were moving on a bike to hunt wild boars in the forest of Khanapur forest range. According to the police, they were carrying ball-like explosive material in their backpack. At Machimada village, the bike collided with a tractor. The tractor ran over Girish and due to the pressure explosives went off ripping his body into pieces.
The police said the trio hail from Hakki-Pikki colony in Shivamogga district and visited forest range for wild boar’s meat. The explosive is used to feed the boars to kill it. Superintendent of Police (SP), Laxman Nimbaragi while talking to TOI said people from Hakki-Pikki colony regularly visit forest ranges in Belagavi to hunt boars.
Shivakumar who was involved in the accident along with Girish said they were carrying balls of explosives to feed boars and hunt them. He added that the accident occurred at around 9.30am enroute to forest. The SP further pointed that the FSL would examine the explosives to ascertain what material it was. A case has been registered at a local police station.
