You can now sleep in Mohanlal’s house! Actor turns Ooty villa into dream stay for guests

After Mammootty opened up his former Kochi residence to visitors earlier this year, fellow Malayalam superstar Mohanlal has followed suit. His picturesque private villa in Ooty, aptly named ‘Hideaway’, is now available for short-term stays, offering guests a rare opportunity to step into the personal world of the acclaimed actor and his family.

Located just 15 minutes from Ooty town, ‘Hideaway’ has long served as a serene escape for Mohanlal, his wife, and their children Pranav and Vismaya. Now listed through the website luxunlock.com, the bungalow is open to guests, with a base tariff of ₹37,000 per night, excluding taxes. An independent operator manages the property.

The three-bedroom home is more than just a luxury retreat, it’s a celebration of Mohanlal’s cinematic journey and family life. Each bedroom bears personal touches. Pranav’s room, with its garden-facing sit-out and work nook, blends functionality with charm. Vismaya’s room, on the other hand, features nature-themed décor, echoing her love for the outdoors.

The living room, or ‘Family Room’, is the heart of the house, kept warm by a fireplace and lined with caricatures of Mohanlal’s most iconic roles. A collection of over 300 artistic renderings invites visitors to play an impromptu game of “Guess the Character”, a nostalgic nod to Malayalam film history.

Adding an extra flair is the unique “Gun House”, an annex that doubles as a bar and a showroom. This space was added later to showcase replica weapons used in Mohanlal’s grand historical films ‘Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea’ and ‘Barroz.’

Guests at ‘Hideaway’ are also treated to authentic Kerala cuisine prepared by the family’s long-time in-house chef. Having served the Mohanlal household for over 25 years, the chef brings to life cherished recipes passed down by the actor and his wife. Meals can be enjoyed indoors or during outdoor barbecues in the lush, well-maintained garden that stays vibrant year-round.

The move follows the recent trend set by Mammootty, who transformed his Panampilly Nagar residence in Kochi into a boutique homestay. Managed by Vacation Experience, that house, fondly called ‘Mammootty House’, opened to guests earlier this year at a premium rate of ₹75,000 per night. The KC Joseph Road residence, once home to the Mammootty family, is steeped in nostalgia. It witnessed personal milestones including the rise of Dulquer Salmaan’s career and his wedding. Even today, fans gather outside, hoping for a glimpse of the actor’s former residence or to snap photos near the iconic “Mammootty Bridge.”
