The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has forecast partly to generally cloudy conditions across the country for today and tonight, with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning likely in most provinces.
According to DHM, there is a chance of heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places in Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces. Similarly, light snowfall is possible at a few places in the high hilly and mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, and at one or two places in similar regions of the remaining provinces.
Tonight, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy nationwide. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in some areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, and at a few locations in the remaining provinces. The likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall persists in Koshi, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces, while light snowfall may occur in the higher regions of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, and isolated places elsewhere.
Currently, monsoon winds are influencing several areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki Provinces, as well as eastern parts of Lumbini Province. In contrast, the western parts of the country are under the influence of westerly and local winds.
In the Kathmandu Valley, the DHM forecasts partly to generally cloudy skies with a 60% probability of rainfall this afternoon and a 40% chance of showers tonight. Light to moderate rain and thunder showers are likely in the valley throughout the day.
