The Traitors on Amazon Prime, hosted by Karan Johar, challenges players with tricky mind games and guessing who is lying. In the first episode, Nikita Luther, India’s top female poker player, was sent home by another contestant, Elnaaz Norouzi, before the game officially began. While the others started making plans and trying to find the traitor, Nikita surprised everyone by coming back in the third episode as a wildcard. Thanks to her time on the show, many now recognise her face.
She is the first and only Indian woman to win a World Series of Poker (WSOP).
Here’s a closer look at who she is.
Born in Delhi, Nikita studied finance and marketing at the University of Delhi. Her journey into the sport started casually when she began playing on Zynga, a popular online poker app. What began as a fun way to pass the time slowly grew into something more serious. A turning point came in 2015, at a friend’s birthday party, where she played poker for real money for the first time. That moment pushed her to explore it further.
Nikita Luther was also part of the first season of Game of Gold, a poker reality show. Before that, in February 2017, she teamed up with Raghav Bansal where she won the team event at the Macau Poker Cup. This win made her the first Indian woman to win a global poker tournament. But the biggest moment of her career came in June 2018. She, along with her teammate Giuseppe Pantaleo, a well-known German Italian poker player, won a gold bracelet at the WSOP in Las Vegas.
She went on to earn top positions in several rankings, including the Global Poker Index Indian Ladies. She also secured the 52nd spot in the 2021 WSOP Tag Team Event for No Limit Texas Hold’em and performed well in the 2020 WPT India High Roller Event. By taking part in many international and national events over the years, Nikita has built an impressive record. So far, she has won over $440,000 in live tournament earnings.
Now, as part of The Traitors, Nikita is competing against Anshula Kapoor, Apoorva, Ashish Vidyarthi, Elnaaz Nourouzi, Harsh Gujral, Jannat Zubair, Janvi Gaur, Jasmine Bhasin, Karan Kundrra, Lakshmi Manchu, Maheep Kapoor, Mukesh Chhabra, Purav Jha, Raftaar, Raj Kundra, Sahil Salathia, Sudhanshu Pandey, Sufi Motiwala and Uorfi Javed.
