UFC 318: Light heavyweight veterans added to Dustin Poirier vs. Max Holloway card

Lukasz Brzeski and Ryan Spann meet at UFC 318 in what could end up being a loser leaves town match in New Orleans.

Multiple sources close to the situation confirmed the light heavyweight fighters have agreed to meet on July 19. MMAjunkie first reported the news.

UFC 318 is topped by Lafayette’s own Dustin Poirier making his retirement fight against Max Holloway for the “BMF” championship.

Spann (22-11) attempts to get back on track after losing to Waldo Cortes-Acosta via second-round knockout this past March, a defeat that dropped “Superman’s” overall UFC record to 8-6.

A man that once saw himself on a high with quick finishes over Ion Cutelaba and Dominick Reyes in 2022, Spann has now lost four of his past five since, three of those by way of stoppage. The sole victory over that period of time was a bonus-winning guillotine against Ovince Saint Preux in October 2024.

Brzeski (9-6-1, 1 NC) finds himself in a more desperate situation in the promotion after winning in only one of his seven trips to the octagon, including his Dana White’s Contender Series shot that ended in a no-contest after a drug test failure caused his win to be overturned.

The Polish talent was still signed by the UFC despite the positive test for clomiphene, and lost three in a row to Martin Buday, Karl Williams and Cortes-Acosta before edging a decision over Valter Walker. Brzeski was featured in pay-per-view line-ups after that, a pair of first-round defeats to Mick Parkin and Kennedy Nzechukwu.

Damon Martin and Mike Heck contributed to this report.
