‘Ibiza allowed me to escape everyday life’: Stefanos Tsitsipas opens up about holiday reset with Paula Badosa

Following a surprising second-round exit at Roland-Garros where world No. 74 Matteo Gigante stunned him 6-4, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4, Stefanos Tsitsipas did not waste time sulking.

Instead, the world No. 11 sought a much-needed mental reset with his partner, Spanish WTA star Paula Badosa, by jetting off to Ibiza.

Speaking to Tennis Channel, Tsitsipas explained the importance of their well-rounded break: “We had a great time exploring the island. I tried pretty much everything the island has to offer, from the peaceful countryside to the livelier spots. My holiday was very varied, which I am very grateful for, as it allowed me to escape everyday life and maybe even relax properly before the grass season starts again,”.

The timing couldn’t be more fitting. Fresh off his run at the French Open, Stefanos Tsitsipas has now joined forces with new coach Goran Ivanisevic, hoping to revitalise his game ahead of the grass-court season. With Ivanisevic’s expertise, particularly on serve and grass-court strategy, Tsitsipas aims to bring renewed energy and sharper focus to this crucial stretch of the calendar.

Arriving next at the ATP 500 in Halle, Tsitsipas expressed genuine excitement about competing on German soil once again, highlighting not only the tournament but also the passionate fanbase.

The Greek star said, “I think Germany has the most fanatical tennis fans. I say that because I see them waiting outside the hotel. I’ve been watching them for many years, since my first year here, and I can say with great certainty that they are the most passionate tennis fans I’ve ever seen.”.

Beyond the crowd, Tsitsipas is eager to use the Halle Open as a key stepping stone ahead of Wimbledon. He praised the tournament’s atmosphere and grass courts, which he believes provide the perfect environment to fine-tune his game.

Tsitsipas is set to open his campaign in Halle against Italian youngster Luciano Darderi, a player eager to make his mark on grass. This match will be an important test as Stefanos seeks to build momentum and sharpen his game ahead of Wimbledon.

Should he advance, Stefanos could face a tough second-round match against either fifth seed Francisco Cerundolo or rising American star Alex Michelsen, both dangerous competitors on the grass surface.

As the grass season unfolds, Stefanos Tsitsipas looks ready to return refreshed and focused. With the support of his devoted fans and partner, the No. 1 Greek tennis player aims to make a strong showing in Halle and carry that momentum into Wimbledon.
