Housefull 5A And 5B: Before Akshay Kumar Starrer, THIS Mohanlal-Mammootty Film Had Two Climaxes 27 Years Ago

Housefull 5A and 5B are currently running in theatres and making waves not just for being the madcap entertainer but for the two different climaxes. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, the film stars Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh and 16 other stars in key roles. During the trailer launch, producer Sajid Nadiadwala said this idea of two endings was something that “hadn’t happened anywhere else in the world” and that he had been thinking about it for 30 years. Well, is that so?

The clip from the trailer launch went viral in no time, and netizens noticed that it’s not entirely true. Back in 1998, a film called Harikrishnan pulled off a double climax option and with two of the legendary actors of the Malayalam industry – Mohanlal and Mammootty.

In Harikrishnans, both actors played lawyers who were close friends and shared the same name. They both fall in love with the same woman, played by Juhi Chawla. In the original ending, Juhi chooses Krishnan (played by Mohanlal) as her life partner, while the other remains her friend.

However, this climax caused issues among fans. Both Mohanlal and Mammootty had huge followings, and picking one over the other as the winner in love didn’t go down well. To keep fans happy, the makers decided to release two versions of the film, one where Juhi ends up with Mohanlal and the other where she chooses Mammootty. These versions were shown in different regions depending on the star’s fan base.
