Despite a thoroughly impressive clay court season, which included two semi-final appearances in Munich and Madrid, Francisco Cerundolo failed to make an impact at Roland Garros as he fell to a surprising straight sets defeat to Gabriel Diallo in the first-round. The Argentine did not perform to his usual standards as he created only one break point opportunity. That remains his last event, so he begins his grass court season here.
Alex Michelsen has already competed on grass this season, having entered the Stuttgart Open last week. He beat Gael Monfils in round one but suffered a surprising defeat to 17-year-old Justin Engel in the next stage.
Cerundolo has been very consistent during the season, but question marks remain over whether he can translate that to grass courts. Michelsen will also be out to prove a point following his surprise defeat to Engels last week. This is likely to be a close match and could very well go the distance.
