The water levels in the Yamuna River pond at Wazirabad Water Works have drastically declined, currently measuring 668.70 feet against the normal level of 674.50 feet. This decrease has made it increasingly challenging to maintain the required raw water supply to the Wazirabad and Chandrawal Water Treatment Plants (WTPs).
As a result, the production of potable water at both plants has been curtailed by approximately 25-30%. The reduced water production has led to a massive impact on water supply pressure across several key areas served by these WTPs.
Until the situation improves and water levels stabilise, residents and businesses in affected zones will experience low water pressure and irregular water availability. Wazirabad WTP supplies water to many VIP areas of the national capital.
The areas likely to face low water pressure include Majnu Ka Tila, ISBT, GPO, the NDMC area, ITO, Hans Bhawan, LNJP Hospital, Defence Colony, CGO Complex, Rajghat, WHO, IP Emergency, Ramleela Ground, Delhi Gate, Subhash Park, Gulabi Bagh, Timar Pur, SFS Flats, Punjabi Bagh, Azadpur, Shalimar Bagh, Wazirpur, Lawrence Road, Model Town, Jahangirpuri, Moolchand, South Extension, Greater Kailash, Burari, parts of Cantonment areas, South Delhi and adjoining localities under the command of the Wazirabad plant.
Similarly, Chandrawal WTP is expected to affect Civil Lines, Hindu Rao Hospital and neighboring areas, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar and adjoining localities, Karol Bagh, Pahar Ganj, NDMC areas, Old and New Rajinder Nagar, Patel Nagar (East & West), Baljeet Nagar, Prem Nagar, Inderpuri and parts of nearby Cantonment regions.
Authorities urge residents to conserve water during this period and assure that efforts are underway to monitor and mitigate the situation.
