Jodhpur: Rape convict Asaram is required to surrender to authorities at Jodhpur Central Jail by July 1, as his current interim bail period comes to an end. The Rajasthan High Court had extended his interim bail for the second time on April 7 on health grounds. The division bench of Justice Dinesh Mehta and Justice Vineet Kumar granted the extension under conditions originally set by the Supreme Court, which notably included restrictions on Asaram conducting sermons or holding gatherings with devotees. This latest development follows a pattern of temporary releases and surrenders. Asaram’s legal journey began with the Supreme Court granting him interim bail first on Jan 14, 2025, after which he secured an extension from the High Court at Jodhpur until March 31, 2025. Following the expiration of that bail period, he surrendered to Jodhpur Central Jail on April 1 before receiving his current extension.Asaram’s repeated bail applications have been primarily based on health concerns. However, authorities maintain strict oversight of his activities, ensuring compliance with the court-mandated restrictions during his temporary release periods. As the July 1 deadline approaches, prison authorities in Jodhpur are preparing for Asaram’s return to custody. tnn
