The foresters said that the elephant, Ekadanta, was found dead in Shettihalli wildlife sanctuary. Following a post-mortem, it was found that it had died due to cardiac arrest, stated the foresters.
Ekadanta, who was believed to be 35 years, was captured at Sakleshapur forest in Hassan two years back and moved to Sakrebailu camp located on the outskirts of the city.
Ekadanta ventured into the forest with other elephants from the camp on Monday but did not return. When the worried staff searched for the tusker with the help of the other jumbos located in the camp, they found Ekadanta dead. Sakrebailu is part of Shettyhalli wildlife sanctuary.
According to DCF (wildlife circle), IM Nagaraj, the vet, has concluded that the elephant died due to cardiac arrest.
Sakrebailu elephant camp houses 23 captured elephants.
