The Tribal Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, has issued a memorandum mandating strict verification of income details for Scheduled Tribe (ST) scholarship applicants under the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) for the academic year 2025–26. The online application process for ST Pre-Matric (Classes IX–X) and Post-Matric scholarships began on 15th June 2025 and will continue until 30th September 2025.
Highlighting previous discrepancies, the department noted instances where applicants, especially those whose parents or guardians are government employees, submitted incorrect or misleading income certificates to falsely claim eligibility under the Rs. 2.5 lakh annual income ceiling.
To ensure authenticity, the memorandum states that only salary certificates issued by the respective Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) will be considered valid proof of income for families of government employees.
All Heads of Institutes (HoIs) and Institute Nodal Officers (INOs) have been instructed to collect and verify these DDO-issued certificates before validating NSP applications. In cases where neither parent is a government employee but there is suspicion of document tampering or misrepresentation, thorough cross-verification is to be carried out before accepting any application.
The memorandum, signed by Subhasis Das, Additional Secretary to the Government of Tripura, has been circulated to all relevant departments and officers for immediate action and compliance.
