Naveen undergoes successful surgery; supporters pray for quick recovery | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Former chief minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik underwent a spine surgery for cervical arthritis at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday.In a statement, Dr Santosh Shetty, CEO and executive director of the hospital, said, “We are pleased to share that the surgery was successful. Patnaik ji is stable and currently under observation.“Dr Ramakant Panda, Naveen’s personal doctor who coordinated the entire procedure, said the operation lasted for about four hours and a team of specialised doctors operated very successfully on him.“The surgery was extremely successful with the efforts of the doctors. Naveen Patnaik is stable and conscious now. He will be under observation for two hours and then he will be shifted to the room,” Dr Panda said, adding that Naveen will be discharged in five to six days.Naveen supporters and BJD workers organised prayers in different parts of the state, including Bhubaneswar, for the speedy recovery of the leader of the opposition in the assembly. They gathered in large numbers in different temples and prayed for Naveen.Senior party leaders and supporters were seen lighting up diyas at Lingaraj Temple early Sunday morning, while gatherings were also witnessed at other popular shrines such as Lokanath Temple in Puri, Dhabaleswara in Cuttack and Jhadeswar in Balasore.BJD leader and Bhubaneswar mayor Sulochana Das, along with others, offered prayers at Lingaraj Temple. Das said Naveen is not confined to BJD only, he is the leader of the people of Odisha, and all are praying for his speedy recovery. On June 20, Naveen left for Mumbai for his surgery.
