Grass-court tennis is a small yet crucial part of the tennis season, and some of the game’s greatest champions have found huge success on the surface.
Here, we look at the seven WTA Tour greats with the highest win percentage on the surface, with all of those listed former world No 1’s and multiple-time Grand Slam champions.
This list only factors in players with at least 50 match wins on the surface.
7) Maria Sharapova – 79.80%
Sharapova’s most memorable triumph on grass was her stunning 2004 Wimbledon triumph, though she was also twice a champion in Birmingham and picked up 83 match wins on the surface.
With just 21 losses to her name, the Russian’s win rate of 79.80% is currently the seventh-highest in WTA history.
6) Venus Williams – 81.66%
One of the greatest grass-court players of all time, Venus’ career on the surface is marked by her five Wimbledon triumphs, with four further finals to her name.
Her win percentage of 81.66% ranks her sixth in WTA Tour history, with a staggering 98 wins compared to just 22 defeats on the surface.
5) Justine Henin – 82.81%
Though she never quite got her hands on the Wimbledon title, Henin reached two finals and three further semi-finals at SW19, and won four grass-court titles across her career.
The former world No 1 amassed an impressive 53-11 record on the surface, with her win percentage of 82.81% ranking her fifth in WTA history.
4) Steffi Graf – 85.00%
Graf was the leading grass-court star of her generation, with seven titles coming on the surface – all at the All England Club.
Tennis icon Graf played exactly 100 matches on the surface and lost just 15 times, with her win rate of 85.00% the fourth-highest among WTA Tour players.
3) Chris Evert – 87.36%
The winner of 17 grass-court titles and a three-time champion at Wimbledon, Evert’s exploits on the surface sometimes do not get the attention they deserve.
Evert won an astonishing 242 matches on the surface with just 45 defeats, recording a win percentage of 87.36% – which remains the third-highest in WTA history.

2) Serena Williams – 87.70%
Arguably the best grass-court player of the 21st century, and one of the best of all time, Serena won eight titles on the surface, including seven at Wimbledon.
The American recorded 107 match wins to just 15 losses on grass, with her win rate of 87.70% placing her second in the WTA record books.
1) Martina Navratilova – 88.72%
Navratilova holds the record for the most grass-court titles (32), most Wimbledon women’s singles titles (nine), and most match wins on grass (307), so it comes as no surprise to see her at the top of this list.
Outside of her 307 wins on the surface, the tennis great tasted just 39 defeats, handing her a win percentage of 88.72%, which puts her comfortably at the top of this countdown.
