Ahmedabad: The India meteorological department (IMD) on Wednesday gave encouraging news on monsoon’s progress, indicating that almost all south Gujarat districts may experience a light thunderstorm with light to moderate rain from Saturday onwards.The northern limit of the southwest monsoon continued to pass through Mumbai and Ahilyanagar in Maharashtra and Puri in Odisha as of Wednesday. The favourable conditions may help the monsoon progress further in the next few days, indicated experts. June 15 is being considered the official arrival date of the monsoon for Gujarat, and the last couple of years have seen an early onset or excess rainfall due to several factors.IMD’s forecast for June 14 read, “Light thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind 30-40 kmph accompanied with light to moderate rain very likely at isolated places in the districts of Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar, in all the districts of South Gujarat region namely Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, and in districts of Saurashtra namely Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Botad, and Gir Somnath.”The conditions are likely to prevail on Sunday and Monday also. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature in Ahmedabad was 40.8 degrees celsius, 1.1 degrees above normal. At 28.4 degrees celsius, the minimum temperature was 0.4 degrees above normal. Thursday’s maximum temperature is likely to be around 41 degrees celsius, the forecast indicated.
