We are just a few months away from the 5th year anniversary of the announcement of the Prince of Persia Sands of Time Remake. While the game’s release date is set for 2026, there has been little to no info about it, until recently.
The official Prince of Persia account on X decided to update fans of the series about the development of the video game. According to the post, they are deep into the development of the game which is being ‘crafted by a team that truly cares’.
No details were shared with respect to how far gone into development the game is and or when fans should expect a first look, save for that it is ongoing. Although the post does include a photo of a palace which is believed to be from the game. In addition, the post suggests to fans that they play The Rogue Prince of Persia, a new entry in the franchise, while they await the release of the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake.
The Rogue Prince of Persia is an action adventure side-scrolling roguelite that has been in early access for a while. However, version 1.0 of the game is expected to be released in August. Interestingly, the account didn’t mention Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, the other equally recent game in the series which was released for consoles and PC in January 2024 and then released for mobile devices a few months ago.
Also a side-scrolling adventure game, albeit with Metroidvania elements, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown (curr. available on Amazon for $25.79) is a linear adventure game with puzzles whereas The Rogue Prince of Persia relies on gameplay loops where players embark on a run and start afresh when they die akin to Dead Cells. Nevertheless, both games should satisfy the itch for those who want to play a new title in the Prince of Persia series.
